Welcome to San Rafael
San Rafael, Marin County’s county seat, has a rich history and culture. The bustling downtown hosts coffee shops, restaurants, and the historic Rafael theater. Home to the Mission San Rafael Arcangel, a Spanish Mission created in 1817, San Rafael’s downtown is deeply rooted in California history. San Rafael’s mild climate and access to the SMART train, a commuter train that runs North-South along the Highway 101, makes it a prime location for enjoying weekends outdoors and commuting to San Francisco easily during the week. Located in San Rafael as well is the Frank-Lloyd-Wright-designed Marin County Civic Center. This county landmark hosts musical performances in its auditorium and is home to county government. San Rafael’s hustle of a city and tightknit community make it a gem in the heart of Marin.
